They'll be too scared to attack us once we've stockpiled lots of anti asteroid weaponry. Any attack would be a Pyrrhic victory at best.

We're doomed!

Or it could turn out that the core of the asteroid is composed of the gate element Naquadah, and blowing it up will intensify the explosion and burn off our atmosphere.

Then we'll have no choice but to take the asteroid into HYPERSPACE. THROUGH THE PLANET.

Strange that this info has only appeared recently, I had thought I'd seen or read something like this a long time ago.
Don't worry about it XD. It's not going to happen in your life time. Impacts that could have severe consequences are actually very common, they're just not common when you relate them with a human life time, or one could even argue the time since our inception for that matter, which in the grand scheme of things is practically nothing.

Dang. I was kind of hoping that they were all prepred. Maybe we should stop examining nebulae light years away and searching for intelligent life out there, and focus more on our own solar system...
Agh, it's seriously scaring me now. I can't think about this kind of stuff for too long or I'll get all panicky.
