Georgia without Chik, no earthquake.

Georgia with Chik, earthquake.

Coincidence?

EDIT:

...

It's not the US state, but the country.

I fail.

You may use the rest of this thread to ridicule me.

That is all.

It's okay.

Maybe the Earth just got confused. I'm sure Chik still had something to do with it.

To be fair, an earthquake could theoretically happen anywhere in the United States - except Florida due to its placement. It's just that they tend to center over on the West coast, though technically, it could happen anywhere - even right where you're sitting right now.

If you look, there's actually a lot of interesting fault lines everywhere - here in Houston, there's one shopping strip where the sidewalk and the subsequent store behind it is tilted rather extremely due to the shifting fault line it was built on. It's fascinating to see.

And then some of us live on "I WILL KILL YOU ALL" fault lines. :(

We all live on something that will kill us eventually. Florida, to use the prior example, may not be in fear of quakes, but those hurricanes sure do like showing up. I, on the other hand, have to worry about said hurricanes as well because unlike a few of the other coastal areas on the Gulf, I'd already be underwater if not for modern irrigation and flood control in a normal, average non-drought situation.

And I'm on the second story as I type this.

We Kansas get God's finger o' death.

Scientifically known as tornadoes. I can't really imagine much scarier than watching a 3 mile wide funnel of AIR bearing down on you at about 60 miles an hour. Causing havoc and what not.

A couple years ago, this city Greensburg literally got wiped off the map by an F-5.. 5 miles wide:

Despite the fact that it demolished the city, there were only 14 deaths.

Kansans have perfected the art of tornado watching until the last minute then running into our basements like hells on our heels.

I watched one destroy a trailer park across the city about 8 years ago or so. They are so wickedly awesome. And they sound like a train, the air turns all this odd color of green and stuff. Oh yes... wild!

I was curious as to why the bbc would care about an earthquake in America. Now all I see is hilarity. Can't win them all Vet.

Going with the "oh, he means the country/or not/or yes" crowd. For a moment there I thought I had missed another earthquake.

And Snake, that's absolutely frightening.

Tornadoes may possibly scare me more than spiders. T_T One of the few good things about Ohio is we don't get many at all... When we do it's a big event. We had one a long time ago, before I was born I think, that came through a pretty populated area and did a bunch of damage. It tore off some store sign, I think, and smashed it into a silo, (obviously) creating a huge dent.

In fact..

Posted Image

It's just known as "The Dented Silo". :P It was torn down a few years ago though.. For a shopping center. <_<

Lol, sometimes I'm just struck by how rare tornadoes are for everyone else and how they are such a big deal. We get so many here, it's just like oh man lets see if we can see this one!

Like that Greensburg tornado, there were a total of 120 some odd tornadoes that were actually CONFIRMED as touching down. Granted that's even a record for us, but we see a shit ton anyways on a normal spring.

Yeeeeeaahh. The frequency of tornadoes is the exact reason I could never live anywhere even remotely close to Kansas.

Aw poor Rova!

As far as I know, we have never had any spider filled tornadoes in Kansas.

However... I have to admit that I am intrigued and would definitely go watch it if it happened.

I've personally had experience with two tornados. One passed about 2-3 blocks from me (late 90's), and I drove through a weak one about 5 years ago.

And Florida can have earthquakes. There was a small one there about 3 years ago.
