I posted this in my Fanon theory, but could it work adhering to canon?

TMC-FS-FSA-ALttP-LoZ-AoL-OoX None of these games reference a 3D game, and no 3D games reference them. They do, however, reference each other.
I mainly thought of this as a way to preserve the FSA-ALttP connection while keeping FS as the oldest story.
Is it feasible to remove the 3D games? As far as I can tell, only TP references ALttP, and in homages, not plot.

I don't see anything preventing it from working. The 3D games kind of resolve themselves.

The thing most likely to make it not work is that TP references ALttP. Could I just write that off as an easter egg?

Oh sorry, I thought you were just trying to make a workable 2D timeline independant of the 3Ds. I guess you're trying to see if splitting them could be considered canonical?

I wouldn't say so. I think the references to LttP could be an easter egg, but I doubt Aonuma is intending to separate the 3D and 2D timelines. I think the FS quote has too much ambiguity surrounding it to carry any weight.

I klnow the quote is of dubious canon value, but putting the 2D games in their own canon solves almost every plot hole in the series since OoT. It also simplifies things, making there only one Ganon. I need to write a full-blown article about this possibility. maybe I'll post it here and on ZU. Think about every timeline dispute. Most of them involve "which timeline do the 2D games go in?" In this one, neither! Both the Child and Adult timelines are free to develop sequels that don't have to tie into any pre-established mythos, because the old mythos is in another canon altogether. Maybe this is the reason for FSA's existence, not to retcon OoT, but to replace it.

I'll still list my traditional theory in my sig, but use this one as an alternative. If ZWii and ST throw monkey wrenches in the "orthodox" timeline, then I'll use this one until a better alternative shows up. I guess you could say I support two theories now, sort of like how some people supported both a split and linear theory before the split was announced.

It's an interesting idea, anyway. I certainly wouldn't mind if it turned out to be true.

That is an interesting theory, Person. It certainly could be a possibility, given that many plot holes still exist between the 3D and 2D games. Of course, you still have the plot holes surrounding FSA and ALTTP, but goes for any theory. Although plot holes in the series does give the creators some room to fill in with new games so its hard to tell
