....
John Doe. Gladys.
They had arrived. In their room. They had walked from home. A long way away. He smelt. Gladys didn't care. She still wanted him. He watered her. She was happy.
He wondered if he'd have a roomate. He wondered if they liked plants, or if they were going to have to learn.
He decided to wander down, leave gladys in the room, and see what the uni was like.

Stepping out of the car, Daniel looked inside, inspecting the damage of the road trip. The steering wheel was almost entirely melted; Dan's temper had a way of flaring up, metaphorically and literally. Grabbing a small suitcase and a pair of sunglasses, Dan strutted his way towards the university. Overall, Dan looked entirely ridiculous: Hair unkempt and dirty; sunglasses, even though the sun hadn't shined all week. His brown leather jacket looked like something stolen from a WWI fighter pilot's closet. Ridiculous and pumped with testosterone, Daniel was a walking disaster.
Dan opened the letter the university had sent him. Given his background, Dan was on temporary probation for the first semester at LAville; no warnings for the problem kid. Included was his dorm, the room number, and a map of the campus. Dan was neither shocked nor insulted; few people went out of their way to help him out. Self-sufficient and hesitent to ask for help, Dan saw society's avoidance of him as the greatest courtesty possible. As the letter so kindly informed him, Daniel was a part of the Sparkies house; Dan supposed a worse name was possible, but he couldn't come up with one. Sticking the map in his pocket, Dan wandered about the campus; no need to rush. Besides, the scenery was amazing; girls walking, talking, jogging, and, best of all, laughing. Shifting his bag to his other hand, Dan made a resolution to pick up some scenery as soon as possible.

The new students had started to arrive in, but there were going to be many more arriving in the near future. The professors at the uni were prepared for fireworks to start happening, and not just between the students who fall in love, but by the sparkies who felt like playing pranks on people. The first few weeks of the year were always interesting, with the kids finding out that they were not as unique as they wished, or that they were completly unique, or that they had friends who were like them. This meant that relationships could be formed, but that war could be declared. They remembered the time that the boulders declared war on all the other dorms because they believed that sport was better than sex. It took one of the most beautiful women in the uni to convice the war monger different. Once the act was completed she then sprouted another head and bit off his rod.
There was no place like Laville Uni.
So now all that had to happen was for the kids to get here. And to make sure they avoided studying biology 293. Because that teacher had decided that he was going to kill everyone who took his class.

"Milo come on we got to get going." A pleasant voice called from downstairs. He grimaced and scratched at his mat of a pile of hair and threw open a suitcase and proceeded to stuff in as much of his laundry as he could.
"Alright.." he grumbled n response as he made a quick stop into the bathroom to grab a small comb and his tooth brush. The guy might have been your every day messy man..but he at least placed a large amount of importance on dental hygiene. He thudded along his rolling suitcase down each step, it was the small amount of temper tantrum he could throw without looking entirely ridiculous.
The drive there was hardly that entertaining. He spent the next three hours listening to his ipod completely ignoring the delightful conversations from his mother as she prattled on and on about how he was going to make SO many friends and maybe if he had a better attitude he might even meet some nice girl who would want to be his girlfriend. He groaned and slammed himself out of the car and walked away as fast as he could before his mom could follow after him.
"HAVE A GREAT TIME." She finally called out at him. He raised up a hand in response before disappearing towards the dorm he had been assigned to. He had just weeks before received a welcoming package that included his dorm assignment. He had wished that his mom hadn't been so hopeful in him making friends, she had been a real witch about paying the little bit of extra so he could have a single room. Now here he was entering Boulders dorm, a dorm that even the little description stated were ALL sports nuts and muscle men. He found it a little interesting since he always considered his ability to be a bit Fire based..but it could be considered Earth based as well.
"This is so going to be a nightmare." He said as he fitted his key into the the door. He swung the door open with a thud and shoved his duffle onto one of the sides that was unused. His roommate had been in here some time before, his side had already been decorated up with a small mixture of sports images and nearly naked women. Milo noted that the guy was a huge football nut, oh he struck the gold here. He had he least favorite kind of jocks of all, the football loving times. This would mean that his roommate was a nice mixture of conceited, dimwitted, and well a ladies man. He could very much look forward to the long night wails of him making love with some ditsy ex-cheerleader. Oh fun times this will be.
Milo exited this little hell hole and headed towards where he last saw a vending machine, he would going to have to "purchase" a few sodas to keep him going through this long night of interrogation from his roomie, oh this guy was going to love to hear how many notches Milo had on his belt. He walked up to the machine and placed on flat palm on the money area sending a small zap of electricity into it until it registered a $1.75 had been placed into it. He smirked to himself and hit the Coke button and clicked the can open before resting himself up against the wall to savour the brown bubbly liquid.

Through sheer luck, Dan stumbled upon the Sparkies dormitory. Every window in the building was open, and smoke flooded out of the openings. Inside, Dan was hit with the pleasant aroma of burnt hair and scorched carpet, mixing with the average college funk to create a truly nauseas atmosphere. Freshmen were gathered around, showing off their skills and abilities. Every so often, one braggart would get a little too cocky and "accidentally" light someone's shirt on fire, or "mistakenly" singe a person's eyebrows. Not wanting to get into a confrontation, Dan made to find his room, when a voice yelled, "Hey sunglasses!" Turning, Dan caught a couch pillow right in the face, knocking his sunglasses of his face.
Acting on instinct and rage, Dan caught the pillow, flared a small burst of fire through his hands, and hurled the flaming projectile at the laughing instigator. Catching him in the chest, the burning pillow ignited his clothes, turning the guy into a torch. Dan listened for screams of pain, knowing that they would mean the end of his time at LAville; instead, as Dan had expected, there was nothing but cries of annoyance and indignation. Picking up his sunglasses, Dan turned and left for his room, rather pleased with himself. He'd proven himself, knocked a little punk down a peg or two, and he hadn't even unpacked yet.
Dan found his room; he also found it entirely filled with stuff. His roommate, whoever he was, had taken almost all the space up with his possessions. A little corner of the room was left clear, with a hand-written sign left on his bed, which said, "Touch my stuff & I'll end you. -Kyle" Putting his suitcase down, Dan immediately began pulling the so-called Kyle's possessions into the hall. No particular pattern or order to the selection; just anything from the middle of the room towards the door, which Dan claimed as his half. Once the stuff was piled outside the room, Dan made his own sign, and placed it on the pile; a much simpler sign, it read only "FREE".

LAville University was certainly a surprise to Matthew. So far, it was a pleasant one. The place was an odd mix of strange and mundane. Matthew mostly kept himself at a distance from it all, prefering to observe the place indirectly.
Matthew occasionally checked down at a campus map, trying to follow a quick route to his dorm. He had considered flying for a second, given the extraordinary nature of the place. However, the luggage he had trailing behind himself was too heavy.
Fortunately, the walk was not terribly long. Matthew felt uncomfortable as he went through the hallways of the "Hawks" dorm - the place was rather confining to him with so many people.
When he finally came to his room, he knocked incase anyone was there. Once satisfied that no one was there, he reached out to the doorknob. He was greeted with a static shock.
The shock travelled through his body, leaving a tingle in parts of his body where metallic grafts conducted the electricity. It was not crippling, but the grafts that covered his ears were effected. A constant ringing went through his ears, leaving him leaning against door for a few minutes as he massaged his forehead. A few people who came by offered helping him, but he shooed them off, knowing that it would end soon.
After the minor ordeal, Matthew opened the door and opened the door and pulled the wheeled luggage along behind himself. Setting his belongings down, he took a look around the room. There was not much to it, just a couple beds and some electrical outlets.
Matthew then left, wishing to see more of university and gain a better understanding of the place. He checked the slits in his clothing, two on his back and one on each calf, slits which revealed the metallic grafts sticking through his skin. He then tapped the similar pieces of square metal that covered where his ears were, making sure he could hear correctly. Once satisfied that he was in working order, he went on out of the Hawks dorm to the university beyond.

"Hey Jackie want to hook up tonight?" The guy shouted down the hall. A fake tanned brunette responded down the hall with a giggle and a response of a yes and gleefully hopped down the hall towards the room and latched one hand onto his shoulder and whispered something into his ear.
"That sounds great." The guy responded and tugged playfully at the girls arm as he pulled her into the room and shut it closed behind him.
"Bitch" Milo thought to himself and pulled himself up. He eyed his room with a glare of annoyance and decided that well it was the best of any time to go sight seeing around the campus. He reached into the jacket of his well worn dark brown leather jacket and pulled out the crumbled copy of the name and room numbers of all of his first classes.
'I guess I can make a point to at least find the building of my classes for tomorrow and hope that Jackie and Kelso* there get down blowing eachother by the time I return.' Milo thought to himself as she opened up the door leading to the outside and walked out to the cold air.
There were many different people roaming the outside at the time. Milo could hear in the distance the screams from the drunken teenagers who had already sought out the closest bar and bonded with roommates and neighbors over a few shots of vodka and tequila. There was one fellow loner that Milo could spot heading out of the nearby dorm "Hawks" the man normally would be somebody that Milo would just shrug off and not even bother to give the time of day, but well Milo was supposed to acting a little more social. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a worn pack of cigarettes and shoved one into his mouth and lit it up with lighter. He took a short drag on the cigarette and blew out the smoke and a called out to the guy.
"Yo, nice evening ain't it?" He said and sit himself down on the cement stairs that led up to his dorm. He wasn't a regular smoker himself, but sometimes the occasion just called for it, in this case mother thrusts him in a stupid university and his roommate turns out to be a sex maniac jock, oh yeah..cigarette good. He took another drag on the cigarette and squinted his blue eyes at the guy studying him a little. He wondered to himself what this guys ability could be, he had never realized that so many other kids his age were "freaks" like him that had some sort of genetic manipulation, but here he was in a school of probably over a thousand, oh well..something in common or not Milo was not about to go change his behavior because he met a few fellow freaks.
"Nice to know that University is so great at placing students with true friends for life." He said in mock jubilation.
"My roommate is a jock who as of this moment is hooking up with some bottle tanned brunette, how about you?" He said as he exhaled another mouthful of smoke.
*That 70's show reference, the female in the room is named Jackie but the roommates name Milo doesn't know..it isn't Kelso xD..Milo was simply referencing to the character Kelso from the show who at one time was dating the character Jackie.

But in the isolated world of LAville, now that the students had all arrived, none of that mattered. Because they were busing in their first week of study, trying to keep up with everything that was going on, and trying to find out who the good looking girls were, and if it was possible to get inside their pants within the next 8 months.
LAville didn't get much normal TV anyway, they were too busy planning how to war on eachother, but the way they did it was much cooler than in the real world. Only a few years back there had been a war between the sparkies and the boulders and most of the university had to be rebuilt after it, because of the volcanic eruptions that had taken place.
****
There was a notice on a door. It read
"DEATH IS SWIFT"
"SILENCE IS DEADLY"
"SPARKIES ARE DEAD"
****
So it began again. War.

Dan sat on his bed, working on an assignment for some class or another; he couldn't remember, and had no interest in finding out at the moment. Homework was homework, regardless of the class: Follow the instructions, fill in all the blanks, and turn it in. On the other side of the room, Dan's roommate typed away at his laptop; finishing his sentence, he turned to Dan.
"So, whaddya think about the dorm war against the Hawks?" Kyle had the remains of a black eye, a leftover from their first meeting. Lucky for Dan, Kyle was in a similar situation, and couldn't afford trouble, so the "meeting" had gone unreported. Overall, Dan found Kyle uninteresting; his power consisted of spewing smoke from his body, giving any room the ambience of a bowling alley. Still, he had learned not to provoke Dan, and Dan had learned not to provoke him, and so they got along.
"What makes you think we're at war with the Hawks?" Dan scoffed at his roommate. "The note says a whole lot of stuff that sounds like Hawk "tough talk", if such a thing is possible for those cowards. Still, it doesn't take a genius to forge a note for another dorm. Say you need a Boulder dorm message: You just take out any words over 7 letters long and misspell every fourth word. When the Hawks try something against us, I'll believe it's them; until then, it could be anybody."
Kyle stared at Dan, then shook his head. "You're paranoid like no other, pal."
"Not paranoid, just keeping my options open," Dan said, grinning wide. "The way I see it, if all the dorms are possible enemies, that just gives me a wider range of targets." Returning to his assignment, Dan scribbled out a final sentence, then jumped off his bed and pulled on his shoes, saying, "Speaking of targets, I'm gonna go show the other dorms why they shouldn't try and mess with the Sparkies." Putting on his sunglasses, Dan strolled out of the Sparkie dorm, ready to cause some trouble.

"Yo, nice evening, ain't it?"
Matthew turned to the voice that disturbed his deep think. He was not quite sure what to say in response, so he was grateful when the newcomer kept talking. It would allow time to take in details--he immediately took mental notes of physical appearence, habits, voice inflections, accent, etc.
"Nice to know that the University is so great at placing students with true friends for life. My roommate is a jock who as of this moment is hooking up with some bottle-tanned brunette. How about you?"
Well, there was no harm in a bit of mingling. Besides, something useful could be gained from talking.
"Well, mine is hard to tell. It seems he is not here."

"Well..see you around." He said and threw down the butt of his cigarette and turned to leave. He noticed some small commotion going on around the sparkies dorm, he figured just stupid fellow freshman just what he needed, a small war to keep him up at night. He was glad at least his dorm didn't seem to interested in some stupid childish war.
"And as a fair warning, watch out up a ahead..seems there is a bit of chaos up ahead you better keep your guard up." Milo said winking as he walked ahead into the chaotic mess of the Sparkies vs the Hawks he wasn't intending to get involved of course he just wanted to walk through the mess so he could continue his small tour he was giving himself.

And then, there they were: Two guys, just standing and talking together. There was nothing obvious about them, but Dan felt in his gut that he found what he was looking for. It was two to one, but they were busy talking; Dan had the element of surprise on his hands, and he was going to use it to its fullest. But before he could charge in, the black-haired man tossed his cigarette and walked off. Giving a quick thanks to a god he didn't especially believe in, Dan walked up to the grey-haired individual. A straight-up attack seemed foolish now; Dan decided to have some fun first.
"I'm willing to bet you're a Hawk," Dan said, taking his sunglasses off and placing them on the top of his head. "If you are, you might wanna reconsider walking around alone. Sparkies are easily riled up, and you don't exactly look like a Boulder, if you catch my drift."
Dan extended his hand, suppressing the urge to ignite mid-handshake. "I'm Dan Jones, and I'm a Wave. What brings ya to this corner of the globe?"

"Matthew. Matthew Jackson."
Another pause as he considered how to answer, also taking the time to once again notice details.
"Right now I am mostly just looking around, trying to get used to the new surroundings."
The sunglasses did not appear to be prescription... Voice was more serious than the last guy... He had a calm and cool exterior, but his speech seemed to have some sharpness to it... And the dorms, why mention them? In his experience, Matthew found that people did not give out advice for free.

"But honestly, you shouldn't wander around alone. I mean, If I was a Hawk, God forbid, I'd be more careful. I mean, this is a dangerous place to let your guard down; one second, things are fine, and then bam!" Dan snapped his fingers, sending up a small jet of flame. Moving the flame in a slow arc, Dan grinned wide. "Before ya know it, the whole situation flips on ya."
With another snap, the flame was gone, as was the grin. Suddenly, the game didn't seem nearly as fun. Sliding his sunglasses back over his eyes, Dan sighed and stared at Matthew. Still, he couldn't just walk away; he quickly settled on a middle ground.
"You got yourself in a bad situation right now, bud. I don't know what you can do, but I can pretty much assure you that you're not gonna come out of this ok if it goes further. But that's up to you, now; if you wanna walk away, I'll let ya. If you wanna take this further, I'm ready. Either way's fine with me." Dan took a step back and raised his arms up, in a stance that screamed, "Make a move, I dare ya; I'm ready for it."

But that's up to you, now; if you wanna walk away, I'll let ya. If you wanna take this further, I'm ready. Either way's fine with me."
Matthew dredged up whatever knowledge he had, trying to calculate the best way to handle the situation. He already knew he was not a fighter. Why him? Why pick on him out of all of the people here? Wait... It was as Dan said. He was isolated, with no one who could possibly back him up. He was not approached by this second person until the first had left.
He was given the oppurtunity to stand down, something which had a greater value. Any confrontation would likely fill the ego of this newcomer, but going away would do the same. However, he currently had a tactical advantage... He knew Dan's ability, but Dan did not know his. He had an ace he could use at another time.
Matthew went a from a tensed up, defensive position to a standing up straight.
"I have no interest in a meaningless fight," he stated plainly.
He turned away and spoke once more over his shoulder.
"I am sure there will be many others who would oblige."
I need an ally, he thought quietly to himself.
