For all us European gamers the stars catalogue and points you receive from 1st party games and hardware has been a nice addition, and made up slightly for the kick in the teeth the release delays cause. However, there's never really been anything that worthwhile to exchange your hard bought star points for.

Well now you can swap your star points for Wii points! The exchange rate is 4 stars to 1 Wii point, you can only buy card codes in denominations of 100, 300, 500 and 1000, and your Club Nintendo account must be linked to your Wii Shop Channel account.

There is a catch, rather two catches:

1. Any stars you registered before June 1st 2007 will expire on June 1st 2008. Newer stars will expire two years after registering them.

2. Nintendo's stars to Wii points exchange page has crashed or running very slowly as hoards of Europeans rush to buy Wii points. Also, all the Wii point cards are sold out!

So if you're lucky enough to get the page to load, you'll also have to be lucky to find some point cards still available. Oh, and you can only buy two point cards per day.

http://wiipointscard.nintendo.co.uk

The Club Nintendo main site has been redesigned if you didn't already notice, and there are much nicer things available to buy with your stars like a cap, t-shirt, remote-control Mario Karts, and if you can stretch 15000 points:

The statue is out of stock, last I saw. ^^; I bought a little Bowser Mario Kart thingie! It looks totally cute and fun. Me wanty.

I also bought a few Wii Points the other day and got Gunstar Heroes! For free, essentially. Glee!

Thanks for letting me know about the expiry date for old points, I didn't know that at all.

Yay, my every-day-vist-for-5-points has paid off! I have 10,420 points, and I haven't redeemed Phantom Hourglass, Metroid Prime 3 or Mario Galaxy yet.

I have 1250 stars expiring at the end of December 2007...

Nothing expires until after next June, Showsni. That date coincides with Nintendo changing their terms and conditions.

Shit, yeah mine says 250 are due to expire. I don't know why that is!

Success! Logged in 10 mins ago and there were some of the 500 point cards available. Around 200 of them. I only bought the one as it gets rid of the stars which expire at the end of this month. When I went back to the store, the site had crashed again and all cards had gone! It's a mad rush to buy these things!

Internet channel for me at last!

Really? Glad I got the free version.

I don't know if I want the latest photo channel update or not.

Then again, I hardly ever use it anyway.

And they're currently out of cards...

I've since managed to stumble upon another - a 1000 point card which I found when playing with the Internet Channel. None of the others were available, just that one, like earlier when it was only the 500 card. So it seems pretty random.

Paper Mario here I come.

I bought two yesterday at different times of the day. I don't know, just keep logging in when you get chance and hope for the best.

Do you have any expiring at the end of this month?

I managed to sign in after about five attempts (it keeps saying invalid login). I don't have any expiring at the end of the month.

Do you guys still have all the 'Treasures' you had previously? Last I checked, I only have stuff from Melee, Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion and that was about it. I don't think they worked if I clicked on them, either. ;-;

So, yeah. Missing treasures include those from registering: TWW, Metroid Prime, FF: CC, GBA SP, Metroid Fusion, Animal Crossing, TMC, ToS, MP 2: Echoes, FSA, PM: TYD, Baten Kaitos EWATLO, DS, Warioware Touched, AC: TM, Donkey Konga, SM64 DS, FE: PoR, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, Wii, Wii Sports, Wii Play, TP, Phoenix Wright, SPM, and FP: TRR. And it didn't give me any for PH, SMG or MP3: Corruption.

I think I'm only missing the stuff I registered just before the site changed - Wii console, Wii Play and Mario Galaxy. I'm fairly sure my star points stayed the same though, but to be sure I've emailed Nintendo (who seem to be shy on the reply front).

I had that problem once months ago. I gave up registering the game. It could've been I was typing in the code wrong, as I have really bad eyesight that glasses can't correct, but not bad enough for surgery.

What game should I get with the 500 points, or should I wait to get some more points?
