Hey y'all.

This weekend we're getting a much needed server upgrade for the forums - no more nasty downtimes- and it'll be faster (dual xenon 2.0 ghz processor!).

However, in order to move everything, there will be some downtime this weekend. From what Khuffie tells me, it'll be mostly Saturday through Sunday, if everything goes okay, which I'm sure it will.

This is just a heads-up for all of you that if LA doesn't load this weekend, that'd be why.

One thing you could always consider doing is redirecting the server to a page explaining the downtime. I'm not sure how you have this set up, but it might be an idea worth considering for those of us who don't see this message in time.

That won't work. I've considered all other options and so I don't need any other input 

The reason for the downtime is to ensure that what gets transferred over to the new server is the latest copy of all the accounts on the server. I don't want people to be on LA, posting on threads while all the other accounts are being copied, then when the domain points to the new server, their new posts will be gone. This is the easiest, quickest and most painless way.

Ah. Well, if you need any help, feel free to ask. I've done a few server moves myself; hooray for mysql_dump.

Good luck in getting a clean transfer. I can say from experience that when something goes wrong, it's a nightmare to fix.
