I never suggested you don't know. I don't even have an opinion on the subject because I find the debate kind of ridiculous. I was looking at that topic and I found it interesting, I just want to know if there's any other information we could get from the Japanese version.

What you do to OoT's ending, and consequently to TP's backstory, is just about the furthest thing away from logical reasoning, as basically none of the actions of any characters make any sense. There's nothing illogical or unreasonable about other interpretations of the OoT ending, you just refuse to give them a chance because you're attached to the same ideas you had three years ago.

It=the scene we see, not the mere sentence.

And end of the topic. Continue on PMs if you'd like to, enough of this digression.

And now, Zelda-themed: it seems like Talon says the very same whether you are wearing a Goron Mask or the Gerudo Mask, which shows that his comment is pretty much irrelevant.

Now that you mention it, have we gotten any of those lines about one man being born every 100 years translated? I'm fairly sure they'd say the same thing, but I kind of wonder if some kind of censorship was involved.

Another one: can we get a check or two on the translation of "百数年"? (From the TP "parallel" interview.) The Hylia translated it as "a hundred and something years", but I'm inclined to think that's not quite right, as the kanji translate to "hundred" and "several years", so, several hundred years? Someone who actually knows Japanese better explain this.

TP sends mixed messages. The developers touted all kinds of talk about things (and people!) from OoT still being around, and then in the end it's not sure how many centuries (not even decades as originally said) after OoT TP actually is! >_<

It's pretty obvious that TP's story 18 months before release and TP's story when the game came out are vastly different, considering its timeline placement isn't even the same.

Several of the statements about things being designed that way were made after TP's release, even. (see the Nintendo Power article following its release; it mentions King Zora as a reference to OoT's same king Zora)

For the record, I'm dropping out of this argument to save myself pain and misery in the near future. I have said all I wanted to say.

I'll look into that.

That's badass. I always felt one hundred years was way too narrow a timespan between those two, but it's nice to get validation.

I admit, before TP, I was like Lex. I used to argue that there was a single timeline and that all the games were connected by random quotes.

This reminds me of GameFAQ's good ol' days, when I came into the picture with the "FSA water theory". Is it just me, or have the past two pages of this topic seem like some deja vu of GameFAQ's? (Lex arguing about how one should argue with Impossible II and jhurvid - Triple espresso or whatever his name was making Timeline FAQs - NintendoMan87 and DarkenPoltergeist arguing about the IW)

I actually don't remember the specifics of debate on GameFAQs; our theories weren't set in stone so I think we all debated something with each other at some point. My most prominent memory is developing an elaborate theory for the post-ALttP placement of FSA; I think I was one of the first to do so.

Here's the whole one man in a hundred years thing from OoT:

Quote

ボーヤは 知らないだろうけど、アタイらは 女ばかりの民族。男が生まれるのは 百年に一人… そうして生まれた ゲルドの男は ゲルドの王になれる「おきて」だけど あんな奴 アタイは みとめないよ!
You may not know, but our race is made up of only women. In a hundred years, only one man is born… And even though there is a law saying that that Gerudo man will be the king of the Gerudo, I don’t recognize him as king!

A kid like you may not know this, but the Gerudo race consists only of women. Only one man is born every hundred years… Even though our laws say that lone male Gerudo must become King of the Gerudo, I'll never bow to such an evil man!

And does the description of the 100 years rule in FSA specify male, or only "guardian" like the English version?

Can someone translate the japanese VC description of LoZ? The NoA version says some interesting things. It says that Ganon has escaped the DW. So can someone translated it for me?
Here is the link to the official VC site. http://www.nintendo....i/vc/index.html and here is the link to the LoZ description in that site http://www.nintendo....l_fc/index.html
It would be great to know.

Following up Sign of Justice's post, this was part of the LoZ VC information on that site. It contains text, but as an image, so the text cannot be selected to then be translated by myself.
So could you also translate what this page says?

The link Sign of Justice posted just says: "Go search for the 8 Triforces! The action-adventure game that was released on the disk system."

Viral's link just has the story from the original LoZ manual verbatim.

Alright, thanks alot jacensolo.
So the page I posted made no mention of Ganon coming from the Dark World I assume. That means NoA were making up BS when they said Ganon escaped from the Dark World prior to LoZ in the english description. Damn NoA.

If that image was just the LoZ manual story, then this must be the Japanese description.

A few people including myself had this translated to:

Quote

Was sold 'legend of [zeruda]' 1986 February 21st, as the 1st feature software of the disk system won confidence as an epoch-making real action adventure as that time. Becoming boy swordsman link, while fighting with the various enemies, you will gather try fourth, will aim toward large devil [ganon] overthrow. The stage of venture immense “the ground” and, scatters has divided into two of the “underground labyrinth” in the here and there. Travelling the various places, you will gather the item and information, will challenge to the underground labyrinth and will find try fourth.

Sorry to be a bother, but could you check that page and see if our translation was accurate?

My quick translation of that page is:

Quote

The first "The Legend of Zelda" game was released for the Disk System on February 21, 1986. At the time, it gained popularity as a ground-breaking action adventure game. As the young swordsman Link, players fought with many enemies, gathered the Triforce and defeated the Daimaou Ganon.

The adventure takes place in the vast "overworld" and the "underground labyrinths" that appear all over the overworld. The player travels to many places colllecting items and information, and battles for the Triforce in the underground labyrinths.

Does anyone else think we should just start making translation tables to put on ZL like we have for ALttP? I could try doing them for TWW/TP/FSA. I'm not sure exactly how the original ones were done, though, so I'd want to have some idea of that first. It would be a great way to keep track of what is and isn't translated, as well as finding things rather than searching an endless forum topic.

Looking over the current tables, oh god, the HTML looks insanely time consuming. >_< Maybe I'm wrong. But Excel would be so easy. :P Actually, with a bit of work, I could make it in Excel and save it as an HTML file, then make any changes I need to that way. But really, if there's any way to quickly put all of a game's text into table cells, or if someone has already done it, that would help - obviously davogones is the person I'm referring to here. >_> He actually made the English script for TWW I would be using, anyway, so that's handy.

Edit: Crap, just went to look at the Hylian translation for TWW's intro, but the link seems to be broken. Maybe, since that site has been dead for a long time, the guy didn't realise it was still important and just took it down. Does anyone else have it saved somewhere?

Edit 2: Uploaded a preliminary version of what the start of this might kind of almost look like, although a lot of stuff needs to be added later. Like borders. But you get the idea. Jumbie's comments are green, mine are orange.

http://rapidshare.co..._Waker.xls.html

Also found two missing lines from jacensolo06's translation:

Link said:

But we don't live in such an age any
longer... Our ways are the ways of peace.

Nowadays, I suppose Orca is the only one
on the island who still knows anything
about swordplay.

I like that! With excel files it is a breeze to edit it so that I have the NoA translation first on the left, then the re-translation from Japanese following thereafter (I like it that way since it comes natural to me to first read the line as I know it then the re-translation I am to compare it with)

I'd love it if you continued making them like this rather than html :)

I'll upload this one when it's done, and also give the HTML version to ZL to put online for everyone to see. I'm glad to have some affirmation, because I just copied in the whole script up to Jabun. >_> All it's going to need is for someone to go through and add the Japanese lines that haven't been translated yet into that column, since I can't find them myself in the text dump.

I wish I'd just made this its own topic in the first place so it could be discussed properly, but could you see if you can find the Japanese equivalents of these removed FSA lines? Jumbie has just done the sages part. I also feel like there was one other TMC translation at some point, unless we never actually got that...

I'll just post my translation list. I can't be bothered taking the time to add hyperlinks, so it's going to involve long URLs. >_> Please let me know if there's anything missing, because I'm sure there are some minor translations in this topic I don't have (anything from TP in particular as I'll need that to include in the table). I've made some improvements to the sorting for this topic, but it's still horrible, which is exactly why I'm doing the tables.

Here's the Japanese and a quick translation that I felt like doing of those other lines from FSA that were taken out:

Quote

この先、マスターソードあります。お見逃し無く!
The Master Sword is up ahead. Don't miss it!

Master Sword ahead! Don't miss it!

Quote

そんな簡単に、マスターソードは手に入らぬ あまい! あますぎる!
You can not obtain the Master Sword so easily. You're naive! Too naive!

Not so fast! The Master Sword cannot be gained so easily!

Quote

しまった! うごけない!マジカルミラーをつかって もどるしかない!
Damn it! You can't move! You can't use the Magical Mirror to return!

Drat! You can't move! You need to use the Magic Mirror to return!

Quote

最近の 若者は ハイラル語を 忘れつつあります。 なんとも 悲しいものです…。 あの すばらしい ハイラル語を もう一度 思い出してもらおうと ハイラル後テストを 始めました!
Young people these days are forgetting the Hyrulian Language. It is quite sad... So that that wonderful language would be rememberd once again, I have started a Hyrulian Language Test!

Youngsters these days are forgetting the Hylian tongue. It's so sad... In an effort to preserve our beautiful ancient tongue, I've made a language exam.

Note: The Japanese here uses ハイラル語 to refer to the language which literally means "Hyrule Language". In WW the Deku tree refers to the ancient Hylian as ハイリア語 which literally means "Hylia Language".
