Okay, I'll summarize how to get where I am, and then I need input from the community. I'm hoping we can share some general advice, maybe some screenshots, do a bit of bragging on our fish. Good times. So-

To start the fishing quest, you need to sail to Bannan Island, in the NE corner of the NW Sea. Run to the north end of the island and you find a guy obsessing about mermaids, hereafter referred to as the Old Wayfarer. He tells you that mermaids only appear when there are no monsters about, so go outside and kill all the monsters (you do not need to enter the cave). Sure enough, a mermaid pops up, but she won't let you near- hit her with your boomerang too. Talking to her reveals that she likes to listen to old me with sea stories (???), so all is seemingly well.

Run up to the Old Wayfarer and find that there is no mermaid yet, she seems to have picked Linebeck first. Run down to him, run back to the Old Wayfarer. The old guy is so pleased with his newfound listener that he gives Link the Fishing Pole. To use the Pole, find a shadow of a fish on your map while you're sailing, chase after it, and then hit the "Fish" button to start.

Fishing is easy, just keep your stylus at the bottom of the screen opposite of the side the fish is on and draw little circles when you're not to close to the "Danger!" point. If that wasn't clear, if the fish tries to escape to the left, keep your stylus on the lower right, etc. When a fish jumps, take your stylus off the screen or it'll escape.

At first you can only catch small fish, but once you get a Loovar, you can get the Big Catch Lure from the Old Wayfarer. (Check back with him once you get a Rusty Swordfish too). Finding a Loovar takes a while, they're kinda rare- anyone know any tricks to speed it up?

There are two other kinds of fish to get after you get the Rusty Swordfish- stowfish and Neptoona. Stowfish are attached to other fish at random, pretty rare little guys- once you find one you can get a ship part from the Old Wayfarer. But Neptoona is by far the rarest of all fish, and that's where I'm stuck.

Who here has caught Neptoona? Where did you find him? What kind of shadow did he cast (rusty swordfish cast a swordfish-shaped shadow)? Discuss!

I caught the Neptoona (several actually) but don't remember where. I think they're random and cast the same swordfish shadow. I just know they're tough to rell in because they constantly jump.
