I'll bet some of you will all have wanted to create your own Zelda game (in this case, a 2D one) from scratch. Now you can.

http://www.zeldaclassic.com/

This "quest" engine allows you to create your own Zelda game in the bundled program "ZQuest," and then allows you to play the generated ".qst" files using a program called Zelda Classic. With the latest stable version, 2.10, you can import new graphics from other games and use new "tilesets" to mold the graphical style of your game! This means people can make a "mario" or "metroid" styled game. If you want tilesets/importable tiles/MIDIs for your quest, visit:

http://www.purezc.com/

I am a member there and have been for about a year now. This quest engine is all worth it. I urge all Zelda fans to give it a whirl! On my site's forums (http://forums.triforcetour.com/) we have a "quest exchange" and "developer exchange" that is completely open, where you put links to your files up for download so people can share new ideas for it. If you have any questions/comments about the ZC (ZeldaClassic) engine, just post here. I am fairly experienced with ZC.

Wow I have a question how long did it take you to find this?
I advertised that in a thread a month ago, besides I knew
about this for a year, but I wonder if anyone else did?

Heh heh. Somewhere, deep within the bowels of these forums, is a reference to a Zelda game I once made, using the Cube engine. I spent months remodeling objects from OoT and MM, and trying to convert old LA dungeons into 3D, before finally deciding that it was too risky to be emulating Zelda so closely. I changed the project to Cube Legends and continued to work on it for months until licensing issues finally caught up and I moved onto other projects.

Seems to me that making a 2D Zelda game, while admirable, is not as good a use of time and talent as could be. Making new games or adding to other engines like Sauerbraten or .theprodukkt seems much more interesting, and ultimately rewarding. Making your own tiles and sprites and models generates a lot more pride in a person than emulating something licensed by the big N.

i'm currently working on a zelda game storyline at least the demo version of it. and zelda classic will probably come in handy. someone recommended rpg maker, but zelda classic sounds a bit more direct
