Another forum that I used to be very active on (now I just check it out from time to time but never really post much) has one thing that is wicked WICKED fun, it always brings in lots of posts and well... its just super fun.

Basically its like a beauty/popularity contest XD

On the other forum they do it around Jan (that's usually a slow time of year for them) so they implimented this contest.

Basically all the elitists and hot n00bs fill out applications and the voting begins! (see the links here Miss AnimeAcademy Mr. AnimeAcademy)

Yeah I competed in this years and last years (got third or fourth last year and got like... dead last this year XD )

Anyhow its loads of fun and I thought I'd suggest it to peoples and see what they thought of possibly bringing it or something simliar to it over here? I know the dorm wars are a big thing here but perhaps this could come at the opposite end of the year as the dorm wars to boost activity and membership? Or just do it cause it kicksbutt.

Nominations open and are usually open for like 1-2 weeks (if I remember correctly) and than a few days later a voting thread will appear and voting beings.

The contest is hosted by last years winners. The Ms. AA gets to headline and take care of the new Mr. AA competition and vice versa for the girls competition being hosted by Mr. AA.

Voting lasts like a good two weeks and (depending on how many that have entered) 3-1pts will be given out.

Example: in the girls thread you must choose your top three ladies.

1. Kiki (because its the persons first choice, Kiki would get three points)
2. GoddessOfLight (2 pts awarded)
3. Chi_is_sweet (1 pt.)

I made up all those names >.> terrible aren't they?

After voting is closed the Mr. or Ms. would add up the points (posted and/or PM'ed to them) and tally the winners (this usually takes a week or less, depending on the person)

Anyhow I think I've explained it pretty well. If you guys hate the idea fine :P I just thought I'd present it n_n (oh! I forgot! Usually the candidates who've accepted have filled out an application that was made up by the previous Mr. or Ms. as you will see if you follow the links) That's about it.

We used to have a Mr./Ms. LA thing, and ran it a few times, but stopped doing it because... you know. Vanity and narcissism.

We do have LA Awards, which is not based on how people look, but rather who tops a certain category. Like most evil, best n00b, etc. We should start doing that again, and I think it just kind of slipped away because people got busy with real life. Dorms used to have individual awards as well, which may be fun to bring back, assuming dorm leaders have the time to put effort into it.

Eh. I personally wouldn't mind it, (being that it's pictures of hot LA ladies and all) but I can see where it could turn somewhat sour. Unless of course you didn't put names to the pictures until the winner was announced. That would make things . . . interesting. After the DW we've got JR's Grand tournament, and I sure as heck hope we get the LA awards back up and running soon, that was my favorite competition.

I'm all for the LA Awards. I just hope there's an award for Most Likely Not to Receive Any Awards. Think about that one for a second.

I have to fully agree with Selena on a photo contest - vanity and narcissism - but the LA Awards would be pretty cool.

I just see beauty contest type things as either an ego booster for some people and an ego killer for others.. so I don't really care for them. Not much point.

I just thought it was fun >.>

Anyhow I saw the LA awards thingy, don't know much about it, but I know they won't start up till after the Wars over (speaking of which when does that get over?)

Soon. There's one guy vs. an army, so it won't take too much longer. After the war.... Hmm. Let's see. There's:

- The Chronicles (RPG) reopening
- JRPomazon is doing another Tourny, I think

Other than that, I don't think we have much else going on. The mods can talk about doing LA Awards again. Dorm mods can also confer with each other about running Dorm Awards. I'll start up a discussion in the mod forum here soon, perhaps.

The thing about the LA Awards is that it takes a lot more work than you'd think it takes to get it done - otherwise it just comes out half assed. Take it from someone who knows first hand. Unless whomever's in charge of it now after the......circumstances can and will stay on top of it and beat it into submission, yeah, it's best not to even try.

At the very least, the prior awards should be archived so people can look at what used to be.

The Chronicles is an RPG section and JRPomozan's Tourney is where you vote on people you like best (video game characters, book characters, movie characters, etc.) Both are very fun to participate in.

You can look at past winners and past competitions here: http://forums.legend...?showtopic=4132

I love love love the sweepstakes! Wooo!

Edit: Don't trust me, I give out false information o.o Thanks Lena!

I've never liked these sort of 'award' thingiemabobs. Mainly because, from what I've seen on other forums, they mainly turn into elitist popularity contests that alienate various sections of the forum.

It sorta becomes 'who you know', as in who you speak to regularly outside the forum, rather than true forum based awardage.

Basically I'm with Rova on this. We don't really need to stroke people's egos.

Kept under regulation it won't stroke peoples egos... and if you have awards and whatnot already don't those stroke peoples egos already?

I think that was the point.
A general award ceremony where everyone wins something of some sort - like when they have those mini awards giveouts in school where people get "Most Likely to Eat a Lemur" or something like that - wouldn't be as much of an ego boost as it would be just general silliness.

Which is exactly what the LA Awards is, pretty much. A bunch of silly (or quasi-serious, sometimes, I think) polls about each section of LA. Most Controversial Contro-er, Most Likely to Go to a Strip Club With Monopoly Money, and so forth.

In all honesty, the Mr./Ms. Legends Alliance was ended kind of for a reason, and I don't see it coming back. In all honesty, I really don't want it back. Though everyone always stayed within the 'rules' of LA, you could see otherwise normal people become obsessed with their looks and somewhat constantly trying to find flaws in other people to reason why they should get more votes. That last bit is usually over IM, but it's a reaction I don't like people having on or off LA. From a more biased and personal view, I really just hate it when people get vain like that, and would detest any competition based on such a thing. And if not in looks, then yeah, it's popularity contest. The big names get most of them, regardless of what the regulations are.

But LA Awards good. LA Awards can be worked on in the future once people have enough time to put into it. I've run several dorm-only ones during the LoD days, and that was hell enough trying to assemble. I'd gladly organize a third dorm war right now than try to bother with Awards, but maybe I'll have energy soon. Or the mods can work together. Something. XP

Meh, I'm not thrilled with the idea of a beauty contest, but I'm always up for art contests.
I'm also not thrilled with RPGs, as I don't like not having control of the story...thats part of the reason why I didn't participate much in the last War...that, and I had no idea how it was supposed to work. ^^;

Ditto.

In all honesty I didn't understand a thing about it and had no idea what was going on, so I just kind of ignored it and one day I suddenly had all dorm access and was like "HUH?!?"

*shrugs* idk, not really that interested in the war but I like RPing... I just don't have time anymore.

If the war meant for everyone having control of the story, it would've been chaotic. I really liked the set-up it had; it was cheering for your favorite sports team, but you get to see yourself play in it at times, too. For those of us who actually got into it, it rocked.
That's always the problem, though. People actually have to participate.
And if people can't participate in something as easy as the dorm wars (easy for everyone except Selena o_o;), who would take the time to make something for an art contest?
But, it is easier to complain about something than to get involved in it. Sounds bitter, I know, but I'm reminded of the first part of April Fool's 2007 among other things.

but I'm always up for art contests.

Genius idea.

Splash is right though, people have to get involved.

However, I don't think any amount of extra participation would have made the 'lets pretend to be emo' April Fools thing any better. It was just an idea that started unfunny and just declined from there. o.o Besides, the whole idea of April Fools is to FOOL people, and then you drop it. It fooled nobody, and people just kept doing it all day. It's April FOOLS, not April Random Theme Day.

I think most people just forgot that April Fools existed. Almost the whole internet seemed to forget. o.o Save for a few classy jokes here and there. Oh well, there needs to be an 'off year' every now and again, I suppose.

Back on the original subject.

Two points:

1) There's a pretty wide variety of ages amongst members here.
2) I (and I'm sure other members) don't really want our computers to be taken away and shot by the government over an underage beauty contest.

Actually, there's nothing illegal about underage beauty contests. I find them somewhat detestable, but they're actually quite common. Like that one Rugrats episode....
