Well, can Jumbie confirm it then? ¬.¬

Sure he can! Aonuma said it in the Japanese interview with Nintendo Dream (the infamous one with the parallel timeline confirmation), translated by The Hylia's Patricia:

By the way, in this game Link’s 16 years old, right?

Aonuma: Being 16 years old is right before turning into an adult. The TV ad of the disc system game Adventure of Link said, “16 years [I have no idea of the context, so that’s just my guess],” so now Link’s 16 years old (laughs).

Aonuma speaks about an adult Link clearly like all adult Links are of the same age. He says the one in AoL was 16, so the one in TP has to be 16, too. From this we must conclude that the one in OoT is 16 just the same, very roughly matching with what Miyamoto said about the young Link being eight (yes I can count, but.. roughly).

Well yeah, depending on his birthday he could age eight years over the course of seven (if we assume he didn't return to Hyrule exactly the same day he left seven years later).
Not nine though :P

It's a very bizarre bit of interview though, it doesn't make real sense. I'd like to see an alternate translation - that version of the interview also has a different translation of the 'parallel' section which strikes me as a little flawed given the other translation I saw. I'm sure it's right, but it still doesn't make a huge amount of sense.

I got it from here, while I was googleing for the NoA storyline.
http://gaming.wikia..../Zelda_Timeline

There is also another quote on that page from Nintendo Power 165

Eiji Aonuma: There's also a more complicated explanation. If you think back to the end of Ocarina of Time, there were two endings in that game in different time periods. First Link defeated Ganon as an adult, and then he actually went back to being a child. You could say that The Wind Waker takes place 100 years after the ending in which Link was an adult.

Okay, the second quote we all know and love/loathe. (And all its various mistranslations.) But that first quote is fake. Is it the one from TSA's supposed interview with Eiji or something? That was a joke, if I recall.

Well, its from another topic, but I think the point of this topic is to put them all in one place, so...

I know this probably doesn't affect what most of you think, but I personally was excited to see the story ideas set back in 1998 reappear in a developer interview today. The direct quote from the interview is shown below:

"Each of the races has a character fated to become one of the sages later on. We named them after towns in The Adventure of Link so it would appear that the towns had been named after them. (In the world of Zelda, the events of Ocarina of Time occur before the events of The Adventure of Link)."

?

That's pretty ghey. The fact that half of the stories never happen is just re-tarded. For story sake, I'd rather go with the child timeline than the adult timeline since, apparently, you can only choose one....

I still like my timeline a whole lot better, but I can't hide from "the truth" I suppose....

...still pretty ghey; if this is the idea they had.

Well, even if not, the idea that half never happen is retroided.

Please, don't use ghey or gay as an insult. It might offend people.

Ok, but I put 'ghey' to differ from people's remarks to associate bad things to homosexual people. I use 'ghey' so not to offend gay people. I have gay friends and I say it around them and they deem the G-H-E-Y method acceptable as long as that is what I mean; which it is.

But, I suppose I could just not say it here, though I don't believe any offense will come out of it. It is not that important of a word to use, I have many. I know why you are telling me this, it is for the best.

You keep mentioning you don't like the pslit timeline because it implies half the storylines never happened... Why do you assume split times work like that? Both ends of the split continue to exist, just no longer in relation to each other.

Let me put it this way. If there was a timeline split at 5 am on September 11, 2001 because that was the time when one of the performers of the attack woke up or whatever would cause an extra tangent, then we wouldn't know that there is a better world on the other split. The same goes for the Zelda games, if there is one set of stories going on then there would be no knowledge of another set of stories because the line split.

But we, as the players, know better. We're in a metaphysical position that lets us see both forks of the Zelda Timeline with a godlike viewpoint. What the hell is the problem? It's not like the people of Hyrule seem to remember more than a hundred years or so anyway. They seem to forget Link's adventures as soon as something new pops up to scare them next generation.

Link knows what happened.

And presumably so does the Royal Family in OoT.

In either case, both would still be canon. It wouldn't be the first fictional work to use split timelines. Stargate SG1 did them all the time. Star Trek is another example. And don't get me started on Marvel/DC comics.

Well, I see what you mean about seeing it from a godlike point of view. However, I am pretty sure that it is said that the legends are still told. I look at it as the legends of Biblia Sacra are still being told today in the modern world.

Stargate SG1 did them all the time. Star Trek is another example. And don't get me started on Marvel/DC comics.

Yeah, but all of those stories are terrible. Star Wars is better than Star Trek and Star Wars sucks. American comics glorify the fact that physical prowess is more important than intelligence. And don't get me started on Stargate. <_<

Zelda at least has an excellent storyline, promotes the fact that having wisdom and courage can be more important than having power, and is better than Stargate altogether, in every aspect.

Yeah, but Stargate has MacGyver. :P

As for Trek...

Since I've been looking into this, I'll add this here. Still haven't found what I'm looking for.

NP: In the prologue to this game, there are some hints that The Minish People brought a golden light into Hyrule. Does this relate to the Triforce legend?

HF: Golden light is a very, very old legend of Hyrule and nobody knows how it relates to the Triforce legend. It is still a big mystery whether it has some relationship with the Triforce, which is the most important element in the Legend of Zelda series.

OK...
not much there; but interesting. It adds that element of mystery that I love so much about the series.
