I've seen some strange message boards where they start talking about how "poor" Ganon is easily pawned with the butterfly net in A Link to the Past, and the bottle in Ocarina of Time. Yet, I can't for the life of me get it to work. What are these people talking about?

I've tried it and it actually works in distracting Ganon, allowing you to get in quickly and slash him up. What I don't get is how you can use the bug catching net or the bottles to make ALttP and OoT Ganon/Ganondorf battles easier.

It doesn't make them easier. I don't know abvout ALttP, but in OoT and TWW, you can use an empty bottle instead of the sword against the magic balls Ganondorf (in OoT) and Phantom Ganon (both) throws you. Maybe the net works on Agahnim, I don't know...

The net definitely works against Agahnim, but he's not necessarily Ganon, now is he?

Ganon calls him his alter ego. If that's not enough....

The net supposedly works against Ganon in ALttP.
The bottles supposedly work against him in OoT.
The fishing rod distracts him in TP.

The bottles reflect Ganondorf's energy attacks in OoT, and the bug catching net reflects Agahnim's attacks in ALttP. That's all there is to it.

E.g.:

Wow... either the game designers wanted to throw some extra humor into the game for those 100%-try-everything players, or they really dropped the ball.

No, it's someone trying to beat Ganondorf with weird equipment. Note how he's doing the three heart challenge, and has iron boots and a Zora's tunic on, as well as the smallest wallet and magic meter...

Ah yes. I thought it mightve been a speedrun because of how he was doing it.

I think it's kind of an in-joke that dates back to a Link to the Past, where you could deflect energy blasts with the Bug Catching Net. I'm pretty sure all subsequent Zeldas with bottles and energy ball Pong events have had this Easter Egg.

Let's see...

Yup, works against the first phase of TP's final battle, too.

Curiously the Ordon Sword doesn't reflect the energy blasts.

Makes sense that it wouldnt repel the energy; the Ordon Sword isnt infused with the power to repel evil like bottles are... errr wait a minute...

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned how the Shovel worked against Agahnim's Shadow's attacks in LA.

Yes, in Link's Awakening, the Shovel definitely works against Agahnim's Shadow's attacks.

Makes me wonder if the Shovel works against Phantom Ganon in FSA.

We'll never know. Phantom Ganon appears in levels 1-3 and 5-3, neither of which the shovel appears in.

What about the Fire Rod, does that appear in those stages?

I wouldn't be surprised if a weird weapon had an effect on the balls of magic. Now, was there a magic pong battle in any of the Oracle games? I forget.

Well, both of the Oracles games had a ping-pong game with magic bolts. It happened when you had to fight

I don't think you could use bottles in that game, though... At least, not to capture things with.

There were no bottles. You could buy a potion, though. But no bottles.
