It seems with every new game, Hyrule's map gets bigger and bigger. Some think that we should just assume that Hyrule is always the same size because technology restricted previous games from featuring a vast Hyrule, while others think that the size is different with each game. I, personally, think that Hyrule (generally) gets bigger with each game. The map of OoT is intentionally bigger than the map of TLoZ, and it is supposed to be bigger in the game's reality, too.

Anyway, I made a rough comparison of the different maps of Hyrule from every game it has been in so far. Those games include TLoZ, TAoL, ALttP, OoT, FS, TWW, FSA, TMC, and TP

*MILD SPOILERS ABOUT HYRULE'S GEOGRAPHY IN TWILIGHT PRINCESS!!!*

I made the comparisons in the picture I've linked by comparing the size of common landmarks and distances between them. For example, I matched the size of Spectacle Rock in TLoZ and ALttP to roughly the size of Spectacle Isle in TWW. I scaled TWW's map to OoT by making sure the distance between Death Mountain/Dragon Roost Island and the Kokiri Forest/Forest Haven was roughly equal.

This is why I think that people who assume Hyrule is the same size in every game don't take everything into account. Clearly TAoL has the biggest map of Hyrule, even though the technology used to make it isn't that great compared to the technology used on TWW or TP.

Again, I bring up the fact that this is a rough comparison, so everything isn't scaled to the exact detail. I understand that the size of Spectacle Rock can slightly vary from game to game. Still, this comparison is enough to let us know that Hyrule has purposely been widened in new(ish) Zelda games (OoT, TWW).

Wow...You're right. Hyrule has gotten bigger through out the series. I haven't heard much about TPs Hyrule, but it hasn't changed much since OoT from my understanding.

Actually, now that I look at the AoL Map, I see a stricking resemblance between North Hyrule and the TP map. It's kinda a stretch but the Ruto Viallge area looks like Peak Province and everything more or less falls into place except Lake Hylia and Gerudo Desert which could be off the map. It's strange. It's as if Nintendo was trying to combine the OoT, ALttP, and AoL Maps into one.

Just so everyone knows, I made a better comparison picture and changed the link in the above post. I realized that the Great Sea is bigger than Hyrule is in Ocarina of Time, so I changed that, and that, in turn, made me rescale other maps.

I know it's probably not right.. But I always thought that Gerudo Valley eventually connected with a far side of Ikana Valley/Stone Tower and that the mountain range of Death Mountain went north and connected with the Snowhead/ Goron Shrine area.

Mm, if you want to discuss geography, please start a new thread rather than bringing up a very old one.
