I still do not have any friends who own a copy of ALttP/FS, so I have yet to play FS and thusly have yet to play through the Palace of the Four Sword.

Apparently upon beating the dungeon you're given an alternate ending.

Since it's been several years now, I think it's safe to say that I probably won't be seeing this ending on my own. So, I'm curious.

Can anyone tell what happens during this ending? Or if anything is revealed within the Palace of the Four Sword?

The Palace of the Four Sword doesn't really reveal anything as such, just that the Four Sword has been split into four seperate blades, which Link must retrieve. After entering the final chamber with all four blades, they are all used by four Dark Links, which is basically an alternate final boss. You fight them one after another, and they're pretty difficult, as are all the bosses in the Palace.

After you defeat them, the Four Sword is recombined (if I remember rightly) and Link holds it aloft and tada, the end. Then, we get a sequence akin to the final sequence of the game, except this time it focuses on the Dark World locations, with odd sights like a Hinox juggling bombs.

After this, we get the credits, then you get an extremely detailed runthrough of various statistics that the game has been keeping track of - namely how many times you have used certain items. So it shows how many times you have swung the sword, or thrown the Boomerang, or used the Bombos magic, etc. It's kinda revealing to your play style. I think it may show how many enemies you've destroyed and total Rupees collected (EVERY Rupee), too, and maybe some other things. I forget, exactly.

Since I can't describe the whole ending sequence with all it's locations and what's happening at each one, I would suggest that maybe you download the ROM of the game, the save file from this very site, and an emulator (VisualBoyAdvance) and go a-trekkin' into the super-tough (mainly because of the bosses) dungeon for yourself.

The seperation of the Four Sword into four seperate blades and it being in the Dark World may have a connection to the other games that involve the Four Sword.

If you want, though, the Four Sword Temple in LTTPGBA can serve as a great excuse to place FS and FSA before LTTP in your timeline.

I loved that. The only Zelda game to track time. I thought they would continue that...but it sadly ended right there.

I don't like it when games track time. Always reminds me how much of my life I've been wasting. Bad bad bad.
