I'll let the local news' websites cover it, you only need to read down to the picture on the second one:

Article 1
Article 2

So yes, I'm going to New York on Monday, and I'll be gone until Friday. I'll be marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving parade and also: Going to see Wicked, touring the Radio City Music Hall, visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, visiting ground zero, stopping an emo kid with superpowers from exploding, and having Thanksgiving Dinner at Liberty House.

In other words, doing all the touristy stuff.

I'm so extremely excited about this.

*does happy dance*

Oh, and for those of you who are unaware, there are very few bands that get to march in this parade.

Here's a list of them all:

Albertville High School (Albertville, AL)
American Fork High School (American Fork, UT)
Baltimore’s Marching Ravens (Owings Mills, MD)
Concord High School (Elkhart, IN)
Marian Catholic High School (Chicago Heights, IL)
Ooltewah High School (Ooltewah, TN)
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (Lexington, KY)
Stephenson High School (Stone Mountain, GA)
In honor of the state’s Centennial, the University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK)

and Macy’s Great American Marching Band, comprised of representatives from every state and the District of Columbia.

Watch for me!

y'know of all the times I've been up to NY, I've never done the whole tourist thing. I think once, my dad pointed the Statue of Liberty out to me on the Verranzano bridge, but that was about it. I have grandparents up in Queens (well, Pop passed away in February, God rest his soul.)

But yeah. Great news, dude. I'll look for you on Turkey day :)

Edit: What do you look like and what instrument do you play?

You HAVE to go to Nintendo World while you're there. I've been there a few times. Fantastic place, must-go for any gamer in New York.

What? There's a Nintendo place? where? I'm kind of limited to Times Square-area.

Edit: What do you look like and what instrument do you play? laugh.gif

Oh yeah, I play the Mellophone, which is like the marching version of the French Horn. I say 'like' because I've seen a 'marching French Horn' but I couldn't tell you the difference. Basically it's a shiny silver trumpet, but bigger. Not the really big ones, though, those are the baritones.

I'll be the tall one in the center of the second line of Mellophones if they show us in the marching block, but for the televised show part well...we march in as two big sideways triangles, and I'll be the furthest back on the front row of the second triangle. I'll be pretty much in the back for most of the show...just look for the tall guy with the shiny silver instrument between the saxophones and baritones.

EDIT: and my new avatar is a spiffy-fied version of our band logo.

*looks up mellophone on wiki*

it looks like a cornet with a longer rounder tube thingy.

I played the Trumpet in Highschool, but we never had a logo

lucky :(

Yes, actually, the one on Wikipedia looks almost exactly like the one I use.

And I just had to do this:

Nintendo World is right in Rockefeller Center. Within walking distance of Times Square. It's a HUGE Nintendo store. First level is filled with games and a lot of pokemon stuff, the second level is full of merchandise like shirts, pins, toys and whatnot.

Rockefeller Center is the limit to where we can go outside of Times Square area.

Savor the moment and take lots of pictures. I know several people who have marched in that parade before. Their advice was to bring hand warmers and wear layers under your uniform (of course, these people were from Mississippi and Florida, and I'm from Alabama, so we freeze easily).

I remember marching in the 2000 St. Patrick's Day parade in Dublin, Ireland. It has been one of the most memorable moments in my life. We even got to play a pep rally in a pub.

I wanna go to New York with my high school band. *pouts* But, I guess we don't do marching bands. We only do pep band.

Have fun! I can only imagine. It's a long way to New York from here in Utah, but it sounds fun!! We saw wicked on our musical tour last year in California. I tell ya. It's fantastic!

I actually totally agree. It's fun to do the pep band stuff and play from the stands throughout the games.

I'm back and I absolutely loved New York. I'll post some pictures when I get them on the computer.

EDIT: and here's some pictures for y'all.

I'm completely content with my trip; I saw Spider-man

And I didn't actually use these...

I almost wish I had.

Here's the Statue of Liberty

That's all I'll do for now. If I feel like posting more I will.
