See, I'm interested in MMORPGs. The only thing is, 99.99% of them tend to suck. I don't want to click on a mouse and watch my avatar smack it with a stick for an hour until it dies.

And...news has come, that Valve has licensed its Half-Life 2 Source engine to an upstart company called Smiling Gator Productions, who will make a MMORPG first shooter...*drools*

That would put quite a strain on their servers. MMORPGs involve less direct control, because that way the servers have less information that they need to get from your comp. An FPS MMORPG would slaughter them, due to the constant large amounts of information and minute details that your comp would need to send in. A game like that would slaughter any server I've ever heard of.

But it'll be cool if they can pull it off ;)

If you want to play an FPS with a bunch of people on one server at the same time, try any of the Tribes games [see my "Tribes and the Starsiege Universe" post for detais]. I've been in servers with close to 80 people before, and the lag was even halfway decent!

actually yes its entirely possible and yes its been done before but not on a half-life-ish level the two i've played that are like this (MMOFPSRPG) are very interesting... if i cna find them again then i will post them but yes they are always fun. its like morrowind except more modern with weapons always out, worse graphics, and lots of people killing things.... and NPC's would respawn every 10 minutes but you got a 5k fine for killing them o.O... and for once in a game the guards were actually impossible to kill
